Unlike taking a photo, screen recording involves capturing two distinct streams of data: the visual pixels on your display and the audio signals flowing through your computer. When these streams fail to sync, or when one fails to capture entirely, the result is a silent video. The root cause is usually a configuration error rather than a hardware defect.
Check Your System and Microphone Input Sources
The most frequent reason for a silent recording is that the software is listening to the wrong audio source. Your computer handles multiple audio streams simultaneously, such as system notifications, music playing in the background, and your voice through a microphone. If your screen recorder is set to capture "Microphone" audio but you did not speak into a mic, the recording will be silent.
Verify that your recording software is set to capture "System Audio" or "Desktop Audio."
